JITRA: The body of an air force trainee, who drowned during a river crossing training at Tasik Paya Pahlawan, Mukim Binjal near here, was recovered last night.
The body of Ahmad Nordinnie Yunus, 19, was found by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) search and rescue team at 8.12pm, said RMAF public relations officer Major Kamarulzaman Ali in a statement.
He said Ahmad Nordinnie was undergoing training under the supervision of instructors from the Cadet Officer Training Centre of the RMAF College when the incident occurred yesterday.
The deceased was unable to float himself during the training and the instructors went quickly to his aid but their efforts were in vain, said Kamarulzaman.
He said the body of the trainee was expected to arrive at the Subang Air Base at about 10am tomorrow by the RMAF CH130 aircraft before it would be sent to his family home in Risda Inas Plantation, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan for burial.
Ahmad Nordinnie, who was the fourth from four siblings, was a first year diploma student at the RMAF College.
He joined the training in June last year and was scheduled to complete his course in June 2012.
Meanwhile, RMAF chief Datuk Seri Rodzali Daud extended his condolence to the bereaved family and offered his sympathy to the family over the mishap.
A board of inquiry has been set up to investigate the cause of the incident, he added. - Bernama
